Choosing the Correct Size & Shape (Macdee Metro Rapid – Square)

The Metro Rapid Square syphon range is available in multiple heights (7.5″–10.5″). Choosing the correct size ensures optimal flush and a proper cistern lid fit.

Method 1 – New Install / Replacing a Different Syphon

  1. Measure from the bottom of the cistern to the waterline.
  2. Add 25 mm (≈1") to this measurement.
  3. Ensure this final figure is at least 10 mm below any cistern aperture.
  4. Select the closest matching syphon height (see dropdown at top of page).

Method 2 – Replacing an Existing Metro Rapid (Square)

  1. Refer to the last photo for where to measure.
  2. Measure from the base of the bell/syphon to just under the flat square top.
  3. The measurement corresponds to the required syphon height (7.5″, 8″, 9″, 9.5″, 10″, or 10.5″).

Select your required size from the dropdown menu at the top of this page.

Questions & Answers

Q1: How does the internal overflow on a toilet syphon work?
A syphon will internally overflow when the water level within the cistern reaches the spillover point. Water then passes over into the down-leg of the syphon and discharges safely into the toilet bowl.
Q2: After replacing, why won’t the syphon flush, or only flushes if I “pump” the handle?
  • Check the quick-release nut is tightened fully.
  • Check the diaphragm washer is flat to the piston base and not torn/damaged.
  • Check the sealing washer isn’t kinked or trapped.
  • Sometimes the C-link can be a little tight; try adjusting or using a slightly longer link.
