SPARES: BE PREPARED

Consider purchasing spares when you purchase the valve.  As per all valves, various parts perish or hardened over the years and replacing them often negates the need to replace the whole valve.  Have a spare on hand to ensure optimum flushing.

  • Dynamic Seal for the current valve (this listing) which has been made since 2010 is Dudley Part Number 323306, our SKU FTB2841 here
  • Seal for the pre 2010 flush valve models (both dual and single valves which were made separately at that point), Dudley Part Number 314574, our SKU FTB5391 here
  • Tubes
    • Green (half flush), Dudley Part Number , our SKU FTB886 here
    • Clear (full flush) Dudley Part Number , our SKU FTB887 here

HOW TO SERVICE / MAINTAIN AND TROUBLESHOOT TO ASSESS IF PROBLEM IS WITH FLUSH VALVE / SEAL / PIPES OR OTHER

You will need to get inside the cistern to assess the issue.  You may need to take furniture panel off to do this.

You will need to isolate the water supply before assessing, either from isolation inside the cistern or externally

  • ASSESS THE PIPES:
    • Check the connection of the pipes to the spigots on the flush valve and button are tight.   If not, air could be leaking at the connection.
    • If the pipes are old they could have hardened and perished a little at the ends, Dudley recommend cutting 1cm off each end and reconnecting which may resolve the issue.
    • Good idea to also wash the pipes in warm soapy water to remove any limescale or grit.
    • When reconnecting pipes back into the cistern ensure they are not kinked as this may cause flushing problems.  Also ensure you put the right pipe to the correct spiggot on the button and the right connection on the valve.   Green half tube goes to the half circle and the Clear full tube goes to the full circle.
  • ASSESS THE FLUSH BUTTON:
    • Disconnect the button from the tubes.  Press your finger over the two spiggot connector points on the underside of the button.  Do you feel resistance if you press first the full button and then the half button?   If you DO NOT feel resistance from one or both then the button is likely at fault as the pistol seal has failed due to wear and tear and you will need to replace the button. If you need any help identify a replacement button please send a photograph of your old button to CustomerService@FixTheBog.uk and we will be in touch to help.
  • ASSESS THE FLUSH VALVE:
    • The flush valve can be removed from the cistern by slowly twisting to unlock (has a bayonet light bulb type fitting that needs twisting)
    • Take the top cap off the valve, you may need a flat headed screwdriver to do this, by just easing it off.
    • Connect the button back onto the valve using the pipes (ensure they are connected to right connection on the button and flush). Now press the full flush button down, does the bellow in the valve inflate and stay inflated when you keep the button pressed down.     Do the same with the half flush button.
    • If you have already tested the pipes as above and assessed no problems with them, then if one or both of the bellows does not inflate or stay inflated then the bellow(s)  inside has a split and the whole valve will need replacing.
  • WATER LEAKING INTO PAN:
    • If you are experiencing water leaking into the pan there could be a problem with the dynamic seal in the valve (made of silicone).  Over time this can perish and will need replacing.
    • Before replacing you could remove the seal and wash it in warm soapy water to ensure no limescale or grit on it which could be the problem.
    • If problem persists then purchase a new seal (see link under 'Spares' above).
    • If after replacing the seal the leaking continues it is likely that there is a problem with the inlet valve.
  • AMEND THE REDUCED FLUSH:
    • If you think the reduced flush is flushing more water than you think it should then this can be adjusted.
    • There is a weight inside the flush valve.  It governs how much reduced flush volume is let through the valve.
    • To adjust, twist the weight out of its seating and more to desired location - the higher up you move it the less water will be flushed via the reduced flush cycle.    Then seat it back by twist back and locking into place.  See PDF document under the 'VIDEOS / TECHNICAL DOCUMENT LINKS' below showing how to adjust.
  • RECONNECTING INSIDE THE CISTERN AFTER MAINTENANCE:
    • When reconnecting the tubes and putting the valve / buttons back into he cistern, ensure there are no kinks in the tube and that the tubes are connected to the right connection (full or half flush) on both the button and the valve

QUESTIONS AND ANSERS:

Q1:   Can I replace my pneumatic operated flush valve with another type of flushing valve?
A1:   Unfortunately, some Dudley cisterns are manufactured with the outlet spigot moulded in as part of the cistern body, and are used with a push fit flush pipe. In these cases, the Niagara pneumatic flushing valve that used could only be replaced with another like for like Niagara flushing valve. If the cistern has a more conventional flushing valve fitted, connected to the cistern by a back nut, with a flush pipe connected by means of a cone ring and cap nut, then it would be possible to replace the existing flushing valve with other type of flushing valve.
